How to Measure Correctly (The “Gold Standard”)
To ensure you order the correct length, do NOT rely on “Stock” or “Over/Under” labels alone, as these vary by brand. Instead, measure your current setup or mock-up frame using this method:
- Measurement Point: Measure from the Top of the Lower Triple Tree (the flat surface where the lower bearing sits) down to the Center of the Axle.
- Why this matters: Measuring from the top of the lower tree is the most accurate method because it eliminates variables like neck length, cup height, and different bearing dust covers.
- Reference Length: A standard “Stock” length springer typically measures approximately 24″ using this method.

The “DNA Style” Standard
The “DNA Style” refers to the specific Wide Glide width and exposed-spring design originally popularized by DNA Specialties. Today, Drag Specialties, Moto Iron (TC Bros), and Hardbody (Mid-USA) all manufacture versions of this design. They generally share the same 9-1/4″ Rocker Width, making wheels and axles interchangeable between these major brands.

Not sure I received the DNA 8” over that I ordered. Looks and measures the same as the hardbody springer front end. Sits a little higher in the front than I was looking for and came in a gloss black. Truth is, still looks sick! Didn’t bother to contact customer support. I’ve ordered in the past, and plan on ordering in the future.
